Differences between the KA-1 and P1 headsets?
There are a few notable differences between KA1 and the P1:
- KA1 has flexible mic boom; P1 has a wired mic boom
- KA1 is compatible with both stereo and mono systems; P1 only works with mono systems
- KA1 has gel ear seals; P1 has foam, polyurethane ear seals
- KA1 includes carry bag for headset; P1 does not
- KA1 comes with a 5 year manufacturer's warranty; P1 comes with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty
I can only hear on one side of the ear with my KA-1 headset. What’s wrong?
Please make sure to use the MONO setting on the y-block cable. The KA-1 supports both Stereo & Mono systems. If the plane’s intercom uses MONO and you’re using KA-1’s STEREO setting, you would only hear on one side of the ear.
Can the KA-1 and P1 headsets be used on helicopters?
The KA-1 and P1 headsets are made for general aviation use with the standard dual plugs. They will not work out of the box on helicopters. There are adapters that can turn a general aviation headset into a helicopter set; however, there could be issues related with the adapter that can degrade the quality of the headset. We do not advise customers to purchase the KA-1 and P1 headsets for helicopter use with an adapter.
Can the KB-1 headset used for recording/commentating/ podcasting purposes?
The KB-1 headset is designed as a non-talent communication headset in medium to high noise environments modeled after the general aviation headset. It is purely meant for communication transmission and not optimized for recording/commentating/podcasting purposes.
My mic has a delay in transmitting
Squelch on the intercom will need to be adjusted properly to set the sensitivity bias that opens the gate for microphone transmission to go through.
While remaining silent, turn the squelch towards MAX until intercom goes dead. Then slowly turn it towards LIVE until the intercom goes live. Finally, turn it slightly towards MAX again until the intercom JUST goes silent. This should set the squelch properly.
Sometimes, once you are in the air, you may have to adjust the squelch slightly more towards MAX as the ambient noise in the cockpit has increased and will probably go over the squelch bias level set by the knob. Every intercom is different and will need to be adjusted as such.
How to connect my phone, MP3 player for music?
You will need a 3.5mm male-to-male cord to connect your source (phone, MP3 player) to the headset. Below the right ear cup, locate the AUX port to plug into the headset.
Please note that the headset will only be able to receive audio through the 3.5mm AUX port. You will not be able to use the headset's microphone boom to take a phone call.
